Fitting an SXi Gear Knob
This tutorial shows you how to change a club model gear knob/stick to the sportier SXi/SRi one.

For this you will need:
1x SXi/SRi gear knob and shaft (this is a complete assembly)
1x ball pan (part number - 9200977) this is £1.18 from VX

The ball pan isn't always necessary but will give you more piece of mind as the original one may be damaged during the change.



Above is the part you will need.

Step 1

so you start off with what is below, remove the gaiter by pressing in the sides at the bottom and pulling upwards - then cut the zip-tie that is holding it on and remove.



Step 2

Get your new SXi/SRi unit, it may come in one of two ways, either in an assembly like below or separate. Mine was in an assembly so i had to remove it before i could fit it.



^^^ That is how mine come. Below is a picture of the ball pan and i will indicate how to remove this


You need to press the 2 tabs holding the ball pan in so that the unit can be removed. Below is a picture to illustrate this.



Once pressed the unit should pull up, the white ball pan needs to be removed by destroying it with a screwdriver of some sort. Once prised off it can be completely removed from the assembly. (see picture below)



Now you have this out you need to do the same to the original one in your car.

Once out it will look like this:



You can now compare old stick to the new one (as below)



Time for the new ball pan to be used. i used some of the grease from the original ball pans and spread it onto the new one so it was lubricated.



place the ball pan under the gold/silver coloured ring and place the gear shaft through so they meet each other [IMPORTANT do not push the new ball pan into the holder yet as otherwise you will find it very difficult to get the ball of the stick into it!]

either resting the ball pan on the surrounding area or putting your hand under it push firmly on the top of the gear know to engage the two together. This may take a while to find a method suitable for you to get it in right.

Once in you can now push the whole assembly into the whole at the bottom. Press hard and make sure it is lined up properly!

Make sure the clips are engaged properly and if necessary press them in with a flat screwdriver to make sure they are seated correctly



Now it will look like the above ^^^^

Ensure everything is in the right position and working correctly!

Refit Gaiter and admire your work
